The Fifth Global Conference on Strengthening Synergies between the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (Fifth Global Climate and SDG Synergy Conference) will take place in September 2024 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event will bring together representatives of UN Member States, UN agencies, civil society, the private sector, and other stakeholders to assess progress made on a set of key recommendations from the previous global conferences.
The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the UNFCCC Secretariat will convene the event. The Conference will result in a summary with a set of recommendations for enhancing synergistic implementation of the SDGs and climate action at both political and practical levels and a set of empirical evidence on the co-benefits of the SDGs and climate action, including how Member States are delivering jointly on these two agendas.
This Conference will take place during a two two-week series of Group of 20 (G20)-related events convened by Brazil as the 2024 Chair of the G20 in the lead-up to the G20 Summit in November. The Conference is expected to contribute to the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29) in November 2024 and the 2025 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 30), which will convene in November 2025 in Brazil.
