Pacific leaders are set to press Australia to make deeper cuts to carbon emissions during the Pacific Islands Forum leader's meeting in Nauru this week.
The new Foreign Minister Marise Payne insists Australia is aware of the serious threat that climate change poses to the region.
But leaders may avoid a public debate on the fate of hundreds of refugees still on Nauru.
