European Union helps Marshall Islands put in place energy reforms and increase energy efficiency

MAJURO (EU Pacific/Pacnews) — The European Union Ambassador to the Marshall Islands and the Pacific, Andrew Jacobs has signed with President Hilda Heine, a financing agreement of $9.6 million to support the implementation of the Marshall Islands’ Energy Policy and Action Plan for 2016-2019.

Under this agreement, the EU will help civil society organizations, especially community-based groups representing women, and young people, to be involved in sustainable energy development at the grassroots level.

The bulk of the funds will be provided in the form of direct budget support, to be disbursed upon the achievement of goals drawn from the national Energy Action Plan, thus providing a major boost for its implementation.
