The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat has included SPREP in the list of side event organisers at the Paris Climate Change meeting that met high environmental standards.
For COP21 the UNFCCC received 820 side event applications for their events for which only 220 were selected, including SPREP who has a history of being event organisers that commit to green principals.
SPREP works to ensure the majority of materials at their events and booths are electronically distributed, no waste is left behind at the end of the COP which is a major issue and factor for the COP organisers with reports of hundreds of boxes of resources left behind at the event, the waste bins in the SPREP booth and at SPREP events collected very minimal waste on a daily basis and the SPREP materials to decorate the event and booths are recycled/recyclable. Only 78 of the 220 events were included in the honours list.
Special recognition from CCM goes to Nanette Woonton, Media and Public Relations Officer, Youth Ambassador Brianna Fruean and Chaperone Pauline Fruean, and Maraea Pogi-Slade, Accounting Officer, who were responsible for these tasks at the Paris Conference.
