High Level Support Mechanism to convene to discuss implications of the Paris Agreement on the Pacific – April 2016

28 FEBRUARY 2016

SPREP, in partnership with Climate Analytics through the High Level Support Mechanism, will convene a meeting of Pacific Island Ministers and their senior climate change officials to discuss the Paris Agreement and its implications for the Pacific.

This will be the third High Level Support Mechanism regional event to beheld in the Pacific.

The High Level Support Mechanism (HLSM) is funded through the Government of Germany, and provides direct support to high level delegates to engage in key Climate Change negotiation processes.  This has been done through the convening of regional events, as well as through targeted briefing papers on issues related to climate policy and climate science.

The upcoming HLSM meeting will be held in Apia, the week of April 4th, and will analyse the outcomes of COP 21, and the implications of the Paris Agreement upon Pacific island governments.  It will also aim to develop an ‘action plan’ for Pacific Island countries who choose to become signatories to the Paris Agreement might need on-going support to meet their obligations.
