Globally, the impacts of climate change such as sea level rise and changing weather patterns was seriously hindering the ability of Small Island Developing States (SIDs) to access adequate water supplies.

The island nation of Tuvalu, consisting of eight atoll islands, (total area of 262 square kilometres) is no exception as communities have had to experience droughts for periods of up to four months.
