The Foreign Minister of the Marshall Islands, Tony de Brum, came in person to theInternational Maritime Organization's (IMO)Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) on Wednesday to press upon it the urgency of shipping taking part in the global effort to stem climate change.
The Marshall Islands is home to the world’s third largest shipping registry, and as a nation of low-lying islands it is extremely vulnerable to the effects of climate change, he said as he introduced himself to the MEPC.
