Climate change is already affecting the children of Kirbati. Here’s how you can help them
Children in Kiribati already know what climate change feels like. This small island nation in the Pacific is extremely vulnerable to rising sea levels, which are causing salty water to flood their land. Children often become malnourished because of the effects on food production, while flooding makes diseases such as diarrhoea and cholera more common.
“Since I was a little girl, I have used this well to get fresh water from it,” says Lisa. “Recently the water has been getting salty because of climate change. We don’t have fresh water at home any more, so I have to walk to the next village to get it for my family.”
