More intense cyclones are just one of the likely consequences of climate change with temperatures, sea levels and ocean acidification all projected to significantly increase within 20 years.

The Cook Islands worked with the Australian Government's Pacific Adaptation Strategy Assistance Programme (PASAP) to: review its climate areas at most risk from climate change; map likely areas at most risk from climate change; undertake assessments of vulnerability and adaptation options in outer islands; develop a Joint National Action Plan for climate change and Disaster Risk Reduction and develop a whole of government climate change policy. The Australian Government's PASAP assisted 15 partner countries to assess their vulnerability to climate change and incorporate adaptive measures into planning and development.
