US Ambassador on aid, climate change, the Tuna Treaty and Russian weapons

With China's increasing role in the region ... Russian weapons shipments to Fiji ... and the United States having given notice that it will withdraw from its historic tuna treaty with the Pacific, it is clear big power relations with the region are in a state of flux.

Since the end of 2014 Washington has been shifting its aid focus to put more emphasis on assisting the region to cope with the impact of climate change.
