Solomon Islands farmers practice new methods

After finding that the region of North Malaita is particularly vulnerable to soil erosion and landslides, the UNDP's Strogem Woaka lo Community fo Kaikai or SWoCK program teamed up with farmers from four communities.

Through the creation of demonstration plots, a terracing method was built for farmers planting on hillsides.

So what are some of the problems for farmers planting crops on hillsides?

Tom Maddocks put that question to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in Solomon Islands, Frank Wickham.
