Two groups of protesters on different sides of the refugee debate are awaiting Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s arrival for a Sydney caucus meeting to sign off on how the party elects leaders and its new hardline policy on asylum seekers.
About 20 pro-asylum seeker activists hgathered outside Balmain Town Hall, in Sydney’s inner west, on Monday morning to protest against Mr Rudd's asylum seeker policy, which would resettle asylum seekers who arrive by boat in Papua New Guinea or a third country.
