PAPUA New Guinea is not behind other Pacific Island nations to complete a direct accreditation towards achieving green climate funds to address climate change, a workshop was told on Monday.
It is a requirement by the green climate funds, a new global fund created to support the efforts of developing countries to respond to the challenge of climate change.
PNG has already completed the accreditation for the GCF readiness fund in which K1.5 million was drawn down last November. The fund is to help strengthen its institutional capacity and private sector and stakeholder engagement.
Chief of Party USAID Ready project Lee Barker said the country may be ahead of other countries getting its direct accreditation complete to access the climate ready funds.
