Pacific Paradises like Fiji are at Risk by Climate Change

In last week’s Fiji summit, the Pacific Island nations prepared a collective plea to the world leaders to address the climate change. With the rising sea-level, the picturesque islands in the Pacific are the first ones to suffer from global warming. Since 1992, the world’s sea level has risen with nearly 8 cm, according to NASA. And a rise of one meter is predicted by the end of the century.

For the low-lying islands, the rising sea level means that their farming grounds become ruined by the salted sea water. Tree leaves are turning brown because the salted water reaches their roots. Rainwater is polluted because the sea water is seeping into the natural fresh water reservoirs.
