Pacific climate leader visiting Australia to demand “new wave of climate leadership”

28 JULY 2013

As his country prepares to host this year’s Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ meeting (3 to 6 September), the Marshall Islands’ Minister-in-Assistance to the President (Vice President equivalent) Tony de Brum, will be in Australia this week to issue a clarion call for a new wave of political leadership on climate change to ensure the survival of his country.

During his visit, Minister de Brum will highlight the unprecedented droughts and flooding that have recently hit his country, forcing the government to declare a state of disaster in the tiny atoll nation. He will also describe his country’s efforts to champion transformationalrenewable energy technologies, and its vision for Pacific leadership in making the transition to a low-carbon global economy.
