A significant boost in New Zealand's foreign aid budget has been heralded as part of a transformative shift in the country's relations with Pacific islands. The foreign minister Winston Peters has announced a 30 percent increase in New Zealand's overseas aid, primarily for the Pacific.
The government is to hike foreign aid by $US500 million ($NZ714 million) over the next four years, increasing its support for multilateral and humanitarian agencies.
