Update: 4:06PM PEOPLE displaced across country borders by climate change impacts cannot be considered refugees under international law, and are not provided the same protections as a refugee is.
A media release from the Pacific Islands Development Forum highlighted this "sticky issue" which it revealed was avoided at the launch of the platform on Disaster Displacement at the World Humanitarian Summit held earlier this year in Istanbul, Turkey.
