Marshall Islands urges its 'big brother' to stand up for it on climate change

The government of the tiny Marshall Islands, which lie far out in the Pacific, has a different take on the asylum-seeker debate.

Unlike their southern neighbour Nauru, the Marshall Islands don't expect to the be called upon to process and settle asylum-seekers. If anything, they'll be a source of refugees rather than a home for them.

As Labor and the Coalition set out to prove their toughness on border protection ahead of an election, thought likely to be called this weekend, Marshall Islands senior minister Tony de Brum is in Australia to urge what he calls his country's "big brother" to stand up for climate action.
