Kiribati President Anote Tong urged the Pacific Islands Development Forum, which meets in Fiji this week, to issue a strong joint statement demanding that the world powers take action to halt climate change, local media reported Thursday.
"I don't know what the problem is with those countries in having strong language. There's a big problem and, if we don't have strong language, we won't have immediate action," said the leader of Kiribati, a small South Pacific island nation and one of the ones most affected by climate change, in particular the rising sea level.
