In 2007 the town of Popondetta, in the province of Oro in Papua New Guinea, was one of many to feel the might of a category 3 tropical storm: Cyclone Guba.
Twelve-year-old Archie Ohusa was eight at the time, but he still remembers the shock as he gathered with his family and neighbours in a churchyard – forced to camp out – after their homes had been flooded. “I was frightened,” recalls Archie. “This was the first time I’d seen something like this and I was so scared about losing our home.”
