Side Event 1 : Combining the sciences for risk management [Concept Note]

Abstract:

Concept note for the Side Event 1 with the purpose to raise awareness of the role that the social and physical sciences can play in planning, programming and policy development; showcase examples of how social and physical sciences can combine to contribute to risk management; identify directions for how best to integrate social and physical science data for risk management; provide an opportunity for practitioners in social and physical science to input to the development of the integrated regional strategy; and strengthen dialogue between scientists, policy-makers, partners and communities with whom they work on issues of historical and future vulnerability at the Joint Meeting of the 2013 Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk Management and Pacific Climate Change Roundtable, 8 - 11 July 2013, Nadi, Fiji
