Abstract:
The gender dimensions of disaster risk management and adaptation toÂ
climate change can no longer be ignored. Global virtual networks recogniseÂ
the fundamental differences in the way women and men are affected by,Â
contribute to, cope with and adapt to these vulnerabilities.

 There are manyÂ
reasons for the differences, including gender inequalities, the roles womenÂ
and men play in their communities and the reality that women constituteÂ
most of the worldâs poor. As such, they are highly dependent on localÂ
natural resources for their livelihood and are disproportionately vulnerableÂ
to, and affected by, disasters and climate change.Â
