FIJIANS have been advised to beware of the impact of the prolonged dry spell and the need for everyone to conserve water during this low to no rainfall period.

Water Authority of Fiji board director Kamal Gounder made the comments during the launch of the nationwide campaign on conserving water during this dry spell period.

“While there has been some relief as rain has fallen in parts of the Central Division, it must be advised that there is a dry weather spell that is expected to last till end of October.

“When that happens, people will need assistance with water as it may become scarce,” Mr Gounder said.

He said the objective of the campaign was to encourage members of the public to save water and not be extravagant, with the dry spell faced in the country.

Mr Gounder also said the delivery of clean and safe drinking water was a priority for WAF.

“All we need to do is just look around us to know that the change in climatic conditions and prolonged dry spells is a result of climate change.
